We planted a Meyer lemon tree in our yard last winter, just before New Year’s Eve and on Thanksgiving harvested over 25 large, juicy lemons. What’s a person to do with so many lemons? Make cocktails!
I call it the Backyard Lemon, a modern riff on the lemon drop martini.
When it’s just the two of us, I don’t worry about making the glass pretty all the time, but dipping the rim in lemon juice and a mix of sugar and salt gives the whole thing an extra special kick and is worth the effort.
I prefer Grey Goose in this drink, but you should use your favorite vodka. I store my limoncello and vodka in the freezer, which helps to keep everything cold since I serve it straight up rather than on the rocks.
This recipe makes 2 cocktails.
How To:
Fill a shaker with ice cubes and add the following:
- 1/2 cup (4 ounces or 120ml) vodka.
- 1 ounce (30ml) limoncello.
- juice from 1/2 a lemon.
- a squeeze of agave syrup or simple syrup.
- Shake.
- Divide in two cocktail glasses and top off with soda water.
- That’s it!!
Goes well with our current binge watching habit of Only Murders in the Building and Mythic Quest.
